Tired of rewatching the same Netflix show for days on end? Here are our favourite movies set in France to keep up the cultural exchange while relaxing.



1. Amélie


Amélie (or Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain) is a quirky and charming movie set in Paris. Amélie is a young and innocent waitress who decides to help people find happiness. Her quest to spread joy leads her on a journey where she finds true love. This movie is originally in French but can be watched in English or with subtitles.


2. Marie Antoinette


Based on the life of Queen Marie Antoinette, this Academy Award winning historical drama is a beautiful glimpse into the life of royals in the 18th century. This movie is in English.


3. Ratatouille

This animated Disney-Pixar film is not just for younger ones- it is a heart-warming comedy to be enjoyed by all. Remy, a rat, aspires to become a renowned French chef. However, he fails to realise that people despise rodents and will never enjoy a meal cooked by him. This movie is originally in English but can be watched in French for an extra challenge.


4. An American in Paris


Released in 1951, this musical comedy is inspired by an orchestral composition. This movie showcases an American soldier, a mysterious French girl, and an indomitable European city and won seven Academy Awards. This movie is in English.


5. Les Misérables

There are more than a dozen versions of this film based on Jules Verne's 1862 novel of the same name. The popular 2012 version has something for everyone- romance, singing, history, action and more. You'll find this movie in both English and French.
